Stanley Wayne "Chip" Gatrost Jr., 69, of Ankeny, lowa, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, following complications from esophageal cancer surgery. He faced his illness with remarkable strength and stubborn resilience, a reflection of the spirit he carried throughout his life.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Memorial Services of lowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) with a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon and fellowship time will follow at Lutheran Church of Hope (520 NW 36th St., Ankeny).

Born on April 9, 1956, in Council Bluffs, lowa, Chip was known for his unwavering loyalty, hardworking nature, and generous heart. He spent his career as a welder, and logistics specialist, retiring from Ryko Manufacturing, where his dedication and skill earned the respect of many.

Chip was a passionate fan of the lowa Hawkeyes and the Des Moines Buccaneers, never missing a chance to cheer them on, often with a cold beer in hand and a smile on his face. He found joy in the simple things: hockey games, family gatherings, and the company of his beloved dog, Queenie.

Above all, Chip's life was defined by love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Deb Becker Gatrost; his children, Dylan Gatrost, Sydney Gatrost, and Amanda Tigges; his grandchildren, Mercer Gatrost, Zack Tigges, and Luke Tigges; his siblings, Barb, Keith (Cindy), and Peggy (Leon); and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his quiet strength and steady presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Stanley Gatrost, Sr.; his sister, Sara Jo; and his dog, Taffy.

Chip's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, as a fiercely independent man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. His memory will be cherished always.
