Scott Thomas Damstetter, 46, of Ankeny, passed away May 1, 2025, due to a sudden cardiac event.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 520 NW 36th Street in Ankeny. Funeral services will also be held at Lutheran Church of Hope on Friday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m.
Scott was born September 10, 1978, in Iowa City, IA to Bob and Laura Damstetter. The first of four children, Scott was a loving big brother to three sisters whom he loved and cared for through skinned knees, countless soccer games and dance recitals, and many life lessons. He always had a shoulder for them to cry on, a joke to make them laugh or some tough love to get them motivated.
Moving to Ankeny in 1984, he graduated from Ankeny High School in 1997 and attended Simpson College for four years, where he played soccer. He continued with soccer through coaching as head coach for Indianola High School girls’ soccer team, assistant coach for Ankeny High School boys’ team, and a club coach for Ankeny Soccer Club.
He married his lifelong partner, Amanda, on November 1, 2008. From their love they were blessed with three children, Charlie-15, Paige-9, and Oliver-6. After years in sales and sales leadership for two Des Moines Insurance firms (Marsh McClellan and Guide One), Scott became a licensed Realtor in 2018. A career he absolutely loved and one in which he could serve his clients directly. In that time, he focused on working with new construction contractors for RE MAX/Precision. Just last year, in 2024, he earned a spot on their Executive Club.
Outside of his work in Real Estate, Scott spent most of his time supporting his children in their sporting, educational, and church endeavors. He served as the Coach to Alliance Select Gold and as club director for Alliance Select Fastpitch. He was also an active member of Des Moines Celtic FC, an adult coed soccer club. The family are members of Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny.
Scott will be remembered not only as a devoted son, brother, husband, and father but also as a mentor to many, whether in business or sports. His credo of “Attitude and Effort” will be long remembered by the girls he coached. His incredible warmth and smile will be felt for a very long time.
Scott is survived by his wife, Amanda; daughters, Charlie and Paige; his son, Oliver; his parents, Bob and Laura Damstetter of Ankeny; sisters, Liz Damstetter of Glenview, IL, Brianna Damstetter of Ankeny, and Mickie (Steve) Adam of Minneapolis. Also surviving are Amanda’s parents, Leon and Sharon Jagim of Urbandale; sisters-in-law, Julie (Brad) McAvoy of West Des Moines, and Tracy Jagim of Waukee; nieces, Mikaela, Lauren, and Collins; and his nephews, Alex, Tanner, Keegan, Simon, Elliott, Calvin, Conrad, Miles, and Rowan.

I remember Scott from school in Ankeny. He was one of the fastest kids in our year and an absolute terror on the soccer field. Apart from his quick feet, I remember he had this huge smile. We weren't friends really, but he stood out and I remember him. I regret that he is gone and the grief being endured by those who loved him. I would have liked to see him again.
Amanda, I have nothing but prayer. May God bless you all.
