“Well, I finally made it. The old man finally called me home.”
Robert Bruce Thompson, 86, passed away September 1, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Robert was born February 26, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas. He had a good life, was well-married to Susan Virginia (Brown) Thompson, had step-children, and lots of dogs and cats over the years.
Robert graduated from Central High School in 1958, then went on to Northwest Missouri State College where he majored in Economics. He served in the Missouri Air National Guard before working for Mobil Oil for two years, General Food Corp. for 34 years, and Union Pacific Railroad for six years. He lived in Omaha, NE, Grand Island, NE, and Des Moines, IA.
His parents always said, “Find a good woman, a good job, and keep them both.” Robert was proud that he did both those things and, “Now it’s time to say goodbye. All my worldly possessions go to Susan Thompson, my wife.”
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan; and two step-children.
