Mary “Jeanne” Jane Besch, 75, of Ankeny, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. Born on July 4, 1950, in Emmetsburg, IA, she was the daughter of Jay and Johanna (Nolan) Donahue. Jeanne grew up on the family farm with ten siblings. She graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1968.
Jeanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a loving mother to eight children and a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren, each of whom she adored beyond measure. She never missed a game, concert, recital, or special event, faithfully showing up with a warm smile and unwavering support. Her presence in the stands or the audience was a constant reminder of her deep and steady love.
For most of her life, Jeanne dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom, pouring her energy and heart into raising her family on the farm with her husband, Richard Besch. Later, she continued caring for others as the cook at Head Start in Emmetsburg, where she lovingly prepared meals for children in the community. She had a special gift for nurturing others, whether through a home-cooked meal or a listening ear.
Jeanne found joy in baking for her family, tending to her garden, and savoring a good cup of coffee--often shared around her table, where many meaningful conversations took place. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and welcome to all who entered.
She will be remembered for her selfless love, steady strength, and the countless quiet sacrifices she made for those she cherished. Her legacy lives on in the family she built, the traditions she created, and the love she gave so freely.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Roberta Kerber, Angela Dix (Ethan), Adam Besch (Amy), Aimee Besch, Margaret Besch, Bridget Scieszinski, and James Besch; twelve grandchildren, Katelynn, Matthew, Audrey, Sabrina, Eric, Andrew, Jacob, Avery, Alex, Grace, Skyla, and Brooks; sister, Therese “Mike” Donahue; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Johanna; son, Scott Stoltz; brothers and sisters, Jim Donahue, Ronald Donahue, Tom Donahue (Wendy), William Donahue, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Camarigg, Jo Casentino, and Patricia “Lou” Pomper (Mike).
