Martha Charlotte Voshell “Marty”, 91, died unexpectedly from natural causes on April 22, 2025.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA) with visitation held one hour prior to service time. Following the service, burial will take place at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Marty was born on October 24, 1933, in Ankeny, IA. She was united in marriage to Daryl Luther Voshell for 60 years from January 18, 1952, until his death on March 26, 2012. After his passing, she stayed in the home and until her passing, she did her own cooking, cleaning and housekeeping.
Marty served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts for numerous years while Robert and Randall were involved in Scouting. In addition to her work with the Scouts, she volunteered at Sunny View Care Center for several years before Covid, offering care and assistance to residents, many of whom were younger than herself. Marty also devoted many years to the Ankeny School cafeterias.
Marty was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. Her sense of community extended beyond her volunteerism into her home where she delighted in baking homemade treats such as banana bread, cinnamon rolls, and peanut brittle. Her treats were generously shared with family, friends, and neighbors.
A courageous two-time cancer survivor, Marty faced her health challenges with remarkable strength and resilience, inspiring those around her.
Marty is survived by her children, Barbara Voshell, Robert (Carren) Voshell, and Randall (Catherine) Voshell; grandchildren: Kobi (Laura) Voshell, Justin Voshell, Jessica Voshell, and Nathan (Miranda) Voshell; great-grandchildren: Isaac Voshell, Theo Voshell, Joe Voshell, Zachary Voshell, Carol Olson, Liam Voshell, and Adalyn Voshell; as well as her great-great-granddaughter, Oaklyn Voshell.

Barb, Robert, and Randall, please accept our sincerest condolences over the passing of your beautiful mother. Aunt Marty was so nice and pleasant to be around during my youth. I will always remember her this way. May you all take solace in the many memories that I am sure you all must have of her, as your mother. Regards, Lawrence, Kimberly, & Hunter Sickerson - Helena, MT
Lots of wonderful memories from my high school days. Like a second mom that always made me feel welcome. Still remember the smells of cooking in the house at Christmas time when I'd drop in for a hug and laughter on Christmas Eve and the teasing I took because I wasn't a fan of deer meat but always knew it was in the chili. Rest in peace Marty!
I lived across the street from Marty for 22 years, she was a wonderful friend and neighbor with a beautiful soul! She was an inspiration to everyone and even though she had some physical set backs she never complained, I always told her she was one tough cookie! She helped me through some difficult times , her wisdom and compassion were invaluable to me. I pray that God comforts her family who meant so much to her, she spoke of you every time we met out on the sidewalk in front of her house after her morning walk. She will be greatly missed...

We are saddened by the sudden passing of Marty. She was a special lady and happy we got to spend time with her. She will be missed, but will always remain in our hearts. May God grant peace to her family. Please accept our deepest sympathies. ❤️🙏
