Marilyn Rose Chicoine, 88, passed away on April 7, 2026, at Mill Pond in Ankeny, IA.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church (1102 NW Weigel Dr, Ankeny). Rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. and prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, also at the church. Burial will be held at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Marilyn was born on December 24, 1937, in St. Joseph of Bode, IA to Edward and Rose (Becker) Bormann. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1956. Marilyn was active in piano, organ, choir, Sodality, and 4-H Club. Marilyn attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA graduating in 1959 as Registered Nurse. During her nursing career, she worked in Sioux City, Algona, and West Bend.
On May 7, 1960, Marilyn married Cletus Chicoine at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph of Bode, IA. In 1963, the couple moved from Sioux City to a farm near West Bend, IA where they farmed and raised their seven children, Paul, Daryl, Michele, Alan, Tim, Jeff, and Chad.
Marilyn was an active member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. In 1965, Marilyn joined Catholic Daughters of America, serving three terms as Regent. She also became President of the Ladies Aid in West Bend.
Marilyn enjoyed tending to her flowers and large garden on the farm. She also committed her time to many volunteer efforts in addition to cooking, baking, canning and freezing, and sewing for her family. Marilyn learned to play the guitar and enjoyed playing at Mass. Other hobbies included Bridge, 500, card and board games, music, dancing, reading, fishing, piano, traveling, and enjoying the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn will be remembered for her faith and trust in God, her optimistic spirit, her spontaneity and energy, and was always ready to play games or entertain company.
Marilyn is survived by her seven children, Paul (Barb) Chicoine of Johnston, Daryl (Peggy) Chicoine of Ankeny, Michele (Don) Riesenberg of West Bend, Alan Chicoine of Des Moines, Tim (Stefani) Chicoine of Carl Junction, MO, Jeff (Tina) Chicoine of Granger, and Chad (Becky) Chicoine of Ankeny; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (George) Ham of Manhattan, KS; and brother, Kenneth (Emily) Bormann of Bode, IA.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 2017, Cletus; son, Daniel, Daryl's twin brother, who passed away at two months old of SIDS; and her parents.
