Marilyn B. Bremer, 93, of Iowa and formerly of Utica and Rome, NY, died June 24,2025. Marilyn Ann Barry was born in Utica, August 3, 1931, to Leo and Bertha (Tritten) Barry.
On November 17, 1951, she married Richard C. Bremer, Sr. They made their home and raised four children in Utica. They were owners and operators of Central Hearing Consultants. Marilyn was primarily a homemaker but was often called upon to assist at the office which eventually lead to being there almost every day.
Marilyn was the driving force in the integration of computers into the business. With the help of nephews, Bill and Rob Bremer, Marilyn had the office computers up and running. She became the office IT expert. The office staff claimed there were times when she spent more time under the desk configuring equipment than she did sitting at the desk!!
Marilyn stated that her joy and purpose in life was her children, which later grew to include her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marilyn loved to cook, she was an amazing seamstress and was always knitting a sweater for someone and at times taking on very complicated patterns. While she enjoyed the piano, she would say she “played at the piano” since she never played as well as she wanted! In her early 40s, Marilyn decided to try tennis. She became a very accomplished player and found a wonderful group of tennis friends. Marilyn played tennis into her 80s. Once she stopped playing competitively, she enjoyed helping grandsons with their games.
Marilyn was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and mentor to all who knew her. She always regretted not having gone to college but was such an avid reader that she was the best educated person around. She loved to have a house full of people and frequently hosted gatherings of both sides of our families and usually include close friends as well.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her in-laws, Merritt and Esthyr (Filkins) Bremer; siblings, Leo and (Pat) Barry; William Barry, Sr.; in-laws, Charles and (Connie) Bremer; Robert and (Suzanne) Bremer; Sally and (Craig) Sexton; Nancy and (Henry) Morehouse; Merritt (Buddy) Bremer, Jr.; and infant granddaughter, Kathyrn Bremer.
