Obituary For Margery Marie Steinkamp

Margery Marie Onken Steinkamp, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Ankeny on June 3, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1933, in Carroll, Iowa, to Lester and Laura Albers Onken.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, also at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Marge was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale, Iowa. She attended a one-room country school until the eighth grade and later graduated from Carroll High School. Growing up on a farm, Marge faced many challenges, including the loss of her father at the age of eleven. As the only child in school without a father, she learned resilience and determination at an early age.

In 1953, Marge married Roger Steinkamp, and together they built a life filled with love and adventure. Due to Roger’s job, they lived in several towns throughout the Midwest before settling in Ankeny, Iowa, in 1968. There, she worked for the Ankeny Schools and was actively involved in her daughter’s travel agency, which provided her with wonderful opportunities to explore the world.

Marge had a passion for traveling, volunteering, and giving back to her community. She frequently donated blood and strongly believed in helping others. Her greatest joy was her family. She was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent supporting them in their activities, whether it was baseball, football, soccer, or volleyball.

She was known for her warmth and kindness, forming many dear friendships over the years. Marge loved sharing coffee with friends, playing cards, and especially reading.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Steinkamp; grandson, Derek Steinkamp, and brothers, Robert, Don, and Lee. She is survived by her five children, Loren Steinkamp, Sharon Schinkel (Steve), Luann Leo (Lenny), Warren Steinkamp (Lisa), and Yvonne Silvers (Rob); nine grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local charity of your choice in her memory.

Marge’s legacy of love, generosity, and adventurous spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
