Obituary For Margaret “Peggy” Calkins

Margaret “Peggy” Calkins, 87, of Granger, Iowa, passed away peacefully July 21, 2025.

A graveside service will be held on October 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4208 North Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa 50023.

Peggy was born on October 11, 1937, to Albert and Arlene Krider of Grafton, Iowa, and resided at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Peggy graduated from Grafton High School and later attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa.

She loved watching sports, especially her beloved Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. She had a great love for her dog, Mickey. Her love for birds, fall colors, animals, reading and the first snowfall each year was unmatched. Even greater was her love for family. Her grandchildren described Peggy as “a classic kind of Grandma who still ordered gifts from catalogs.”

Peggy is survived by their son, Mark Calkins of Ankeny, IA; daughter LeeAnne (Sam) Fox of Panama City Beach, FL; grandchildren: Ryan (Roni) Ford, Dustin Ford, Kelsey (Andrew) Riley, Rachel Calkins, Sara (Andrew) Himelson, Carsyn Calkins; and her five great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by both her parents and her loving husband of 66 years, Cecil Calkins.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunny View Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care of Peggy during her final days.
