Judy was born on July 15, 1944, in Rochester, MN to Peter and Lola Johnson. Judy graduated High School from Hayfield, MN. As a child, Judy was a free spirit who cherished time with her parents and brothers while fishing and agate hunting.
Judy met her husband and best friend, Paul Thompson, in 1963 during a school field trip in Austin, MN. They married a year later on July 12, 1964, and they soon welcomed two daughters, Kristine and Susan. In 1974, they made Ankeny their permanent home.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Judy enjoyed working in her garden, exploring the outdoors with a wanderer’s heart and appreciating nature, making crafts and baking for the Iowa State Fair where she won several blue ribbons. Judy loved a good cup of coffee with friends, a nightly “deer ride” with her best friend, a good ball game on TV and she delighted in time with her daughters and all the grandkids and great grandkids. No matter the activity, she mostly adored having Paul by her side and caring for each other. Judy’s faith in her Lord and Savior was always quietly on display and we know she is peacefully residing beside Him.
Judy is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughters, Kristine (Mike) Klinker, Susan (Dan) King; her grandchildren, Jacob (Emily), Lucas (Hannah), Aaron, Andrew, Allyson (Carr), Lindsey; her great grandchildren, Quinn, Tatum, Keaton, Beckham, Cal, Harlow, Brooke, Kohen; her brother, Randy Johnson; as well as nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Lola Johnson and two brothers: Steven and Kenneth.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mill Pond Care Facility, as well as the staff at Unity Point Hospice, for the exceptional care for Judy during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to your local food bank or animal rescue league in Judy’s name.
