Janice “Jan” Dorothy (Kuehl) Pitcher, 82, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on October 3, 2026.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, at Ankeny Baptist Church (2842 SW 3rd St Pl, Ankeny). The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Urbandale Baptist Church (6501 NW Aurora Ave.), with a luncheon immediately following the service.
Jan was the youngest of three children born to Dorothy and Raymond Kuehl on December 31, 1943. She was raised on the family farm near Storden, Minnesota, and graduated from Storden High School in 1961. Jan went on to attend Mankato Commercial College, where she met her future husband, Kenneth Pitcher. They were married on June 12, 1964.
In 1971, Jan and Ken moved from St. Louis Park, MN to Urbandale, where they formed lifelong relationships with their neighbors and faithfully served in their church. Jan was most recently a member of Urbandale Baptist Church, where she loved the people and enjoyed being part of the church family.
Jan retired from Shive-Hattery Architecture & Engineering as a Project Coordinator in 2012. In retirement, she continued to be deeply involved in the lives of her immediate and extended family. Jan enjoyed traveling and volunteering, and her church and community benefited greatly from the time and care she so generously gave.
Jan is survived by her four children, Kevin (Connie) Pitcher, Michelle (Russ) Pals, Craig (Deb) Pitcher, and Jill (Eric) Walker; grandchildren, Zechariah Pitcher, Moriah (Owen) Gentner, August (Davis) Chaudron, Jayme Pals, Taylor Pals, Jaclyn Pitcher, Ashlyn Pitcher, Kendall Pitcher, Brittany (Brad) Mahoney; great-grandchildren, Athena Gentner and Wyatt Mahoney; sister, Marlene Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Pitcher; brother, Kornell Kuehl; sister-in-law, Gisela Kuehl; brother-in-law, Paul Smith; sisters-in-law, Darlene Murray and Hazel Pitcher; and nephew, Jerome Smith.
The family is grateful for the loving care Jan received from Mary Greeley Hospice Services and Bethany Life of Story City.
