Jack Evan Utterback, 28, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away October 14, 2025. Jack’s life was defined by his extraordinary curiosity, sharp wit, and unwavering passion for learning and sharing knowledge. He brought humor, intelligence, and warmth to every room he entered.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A short prayer service will follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Jack graduated from Ankeny High School, where he was a proud member of the robotics team and the yearbook club. He went on to attend Iowa State University, studying Aerospace and Industrial Engineering, and was active in Student Government.
Jack began his professional career with FedEx in Ames as a courier, where he expressed his passion for photography by capturing the many pets and landscapes he encountered on his route. His natural curiosity and attention to detail led him to become a Dangerous Goods Specialist and later a manager. Most recently, he worked at Owens & Minor as an Operations Supervisor, where he was admired for his leadership, diligence, and sense of humor.
Outside of work, Jack’s passions reflected his vibrant and inquisitive spirit. He was an avid cook who loved experimenting in the kitchen and sharing meals with family and friends. Jack was also the first to share an interesting article, a breaking world news story, or a great deal he had discovered online. He was always eager to connect others with something useful or thought-provoking. Above all, Jack cherished the family’s two beloved dogs, Cooper and Oliver, who were constant companions and a great source of joy in his life.
He is survived by his parents, Annette and Jon Utterback; brother, Ryan (Madison Rubin) Utterback; and sister, Megan Utterback. Jack’s deep connections extended to his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and coworkers, all of whom were touched by his kindness and humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport, in honor of Jack’s love for animals.
