Donald Eugene Watt passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born September 22, 1931, in Mustang, Oklahoma, Don was the beloved son of Edith Loring and John Glenn Watt.
He graduated from Strang High School and continued his education at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College before proudly serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
While stationed in Washington, Don met the love of his life, Bonnie Jo Green, at a drive-in restaurant where she worked. They married on January 14, 1955, and built a life together, settling in Des Moines, Iowa. They always maintained strong ties to their Oklahoma roots with a second home they cherished and frequently visited.
Don was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 67 and had a remarkable talent for fixing anything with a motor. His personality was unforgettable, gentle, and kind, with just the right touch of mischief. He had a special way with children and was a devoted “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him deeply.
He is survived by his sons, James (Penni) and Joe (Cynthia) Watt; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his sister, Virginia Hanes, whom he affectionately called “Sue.” He was preceded in death by his parents, John Glenn and Edith Loring Watt; brothers, Paul Watt, Laverne Watt, and Wayne Watt; and sisters, Marilyn Vernon, Marion Shumaker, and Pat McBrien.
Don’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mill Pond Care Center for their exceptional care and compassion over the past two years, and to UnityPoint Hospice for ensuring Don’s final days were peaceful and dignified.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
