Delmer Creighton Husmann, 89, of Boone, IA, passed away on November 5, 2025, with family present at Westhaven Community Retirement Home. Delmer was the son of Julius and Petrea Husmann of Minburn, IA, and eldest of 14 children.
Delmer graduated high school from Minburn in 1953 and in 1960, married Margie Smiley-Hodgson of Boone and became a father figure to her two children, Georgette Hodgson-Overton of Boone and James Hodgson Sr. (Kathryn) of Saipan. He later became a proud grandfather to many grandchildren.
He retired from Bridgestone/Firestone in 1985, went on to work for the City of Boone as a custodian at Ericson Public Library for many years, and later for Boone County Transportation as a HIRTA bus driver.
You would often see Delmer tending to his lawn, gardening, playing with the grandkids or sitting on his front porch around sunset watching cars and people go by—and more often than not, chatting with neighbors and friends who stopped by. In later years he became quite a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast.
But foremost was his love of engaging with members of the community. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, his greatest joy in life was in sharing his faith with others. When his health prevented him from participating in the public ministry, he didn’t let that stop him. He devoted himself to letter writing, continuing to share Bible truth and encouragement with others.
He will be missed and remembered for his refreshing outlook and his often blunt, yet always entertaining, way of expressing it. His sense of humor kept those around him smiling.
