Obituary For David Charles McConkey

David C. McConkey, 89, passed away on June 30, 2026, in Ankeny, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Private burial was held on July 7, 2026, at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Dave was born on June 10, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, to James C. McConkey and Doris E. Gunson. He married Donna Jean (Lee) McConkey on May 14, 1955. Dave enjoyed a long career at John Deere Des Moines Works before retiring.

He enjoyed numerous activities throughout the years varying from camping, boating, running, biking, swimming, painting, woodcarving, traveling, golfing, and wintering in Arizona.

Dave is survived by his daughters, Colette Duncan (Tom Steinbeck), Sheri (Michael) Cory, Denette (Robert) Stoll; grandchildren, Angie (Jerod) Chidester, Heather (Eric) Minner, Jason Cory, Chris (Breanna) Cory, Adam (Avery) Cory, Alicia (Bill) Boyde, Joshua Stoll; sister, Sally Nichols, as well as 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna McConkey; parents, James C. McConkey and Doris E. Gunson; brother, James McConkey; and grandson, Matthew Stoll.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
