Obituary For Casey Stephen Janning

Casey Stephen Janning, beloved son of Nicholas and Rachel Janning, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. He was born alongside his twin brother, Joseph Paul Janning, on May 30, 2026.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church (1102 NW Weigel Dr., Ankeny). Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m., also at the church, with graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

From the moment Nicholas and Rachel learned they were expecting twin boys, their hearts were filled with joy and gratitude. Though Casey’s life was brief, it was filled with immeasurable love, countless prayers, and precious moments that his family will cherish forever.

Casey spent his entire life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, sharing a room with his twin brother, Joseph. During his days there, he welcomed visitors including his Grandma Lori, Grandpa Richard and Grandma Janet, Uncle Andrew, Uncle Levi, and Aunt Brenda. His parents treasured every moment they spent with him - talking to him, helping nurses with his daily care, praying the rosary, reading books aloud, and sharing their love with their precious son.

A particularly special blessing came on Friday, June 5, 2026, when Casey and Joseph were baptized, surrounded by the faith and love of their family. It was a gift to see them become sons of God that day. On Saturday, Nicholas and Rachel were finally able to hold Casey in their arms, a moment they had long prayed for and one they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

Although Casey’s time on earth was only a few short days, he touched the lives of many people and brought his family closer together through the love, hope, and faith he inspired. His life was a reminder that every moment is precious, that life at all stages is sacred.

Casey is survived by his loving parents, Nicholas and Rachel Janning; his twin brother, Joseph Paul Janning; his grandmother Lori Nurse, grandparents Richard and Janet Janning, uncle Andrew Nurse, uncle Levi and aunt Brenda Johnson, cousins Noah, Logan, and Maren Johnson; and many extended family members who eagerly awaited his arrival and loved him throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Steve Nurse.
