Carolyn Joy Nagel, 88, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 05, 2025, at Trinity Center at Luther Park.
Joy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 13, 1937. Joy graduated from Saint Anthony High School. Herman and Joy were married October 28, 1961, at St. Anthony Catholic Church and moved to Ankeny, June 1962, where they lived for over 50 years. She was a stay-at-home mother and was known for her dedication to her husband and children.
Joy loved collecting anything she could get her hands on- postcards, napkins, matchbooks, just to name a few.
Joy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman; sister, Nancy Carter; parents, Catherine and Leonard Carter; and granddaughter, Holly Nagel.
She is survived by her children, Timothy (Monica) Nagel, Mark (Mary) Nagel, Denise (Derk) Twedt, and David (Debra) Nagel; 11 grandchildren: Victoria (Isaac) Auten, Tiffany (Jedediah) Weis, Zachary (Lane) Nagel, Marissa Nagel, Hunter Twedt, Taylor Twedt, Carter Nagel, Renee Nagel, Shania Twedt, Anthony Nagel, and Raelyn Twedt; 7 great-grandchildren: Emilee Auten, Edison Auten, Charlotte Nagel, Eliza Auten, Henry Weis, Charlie Weis, and Samuel Nagel.
Joy will be remembered for her kindness, love for her family, and her Catholic faith as she used God’s gift to spread ‘joy’ and lived her faith.
A private funeral mass and burial will be held for the immediate family at a later date.
