Jerry Lee Stroud, 66, of Des Moines, IA, passed away September 13th, 2026.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at Jester Park (Shelter 2, 12130 NW 128th St, Granger, IA). A small luncheon will be provided, as well as water. Feel free to bring your own beverage.
Jerry was born June 1, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jim and Donna Stroud. He grew up on the east side of Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1978. He spent several years living on Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma, where he developed his love for fishing and hunting. Jerry married his wife Sherri (Marsh) in 1992 and settled in Ottumwa, IA, where they raised their two children, Jimmie and Jerrica.
Jerry liked to spend his time fishing, riding his bike or mower around town, playing pool, singing karaoke, and helping neighbors, both in Ottumwa and Des Moines. If you’ve ever seen Jerry, he always had a smile on his face, a pole in his hand, and a buggy or wagon with his kids not too far behind. Jerry loved everyone, but none more than his kids; often treating neighborhood kids and his children’s friends as if they were his own.
Jerry is survived by his son, Jimmie Stroud; his daughter, Jerrica Stroud (Joey House); brothers Brian (Kellie) Stroud and Robert (Doris) Stroud; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and bonus children.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Jim Stroud and stepmother, Cheryl Stroud; his mother, Donna Wilson and stepfather, Jack Wilson; his wife, Sherri Stroud; his brother, Mark Wilson; and his three babies, Alisha, James, and Davette.
The family would like to send special thanks to the caregivers and nurses at Altoona Nursing and Rehab and to those at Sacred Encounter, who made Jerry’s last few years as comfortable as possible while showing him kindness, compassion, and love.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his children to help with final expenses.
