James Paul Barvincak

12/12/1940 - 07/28/2026

James “Jim” P. Barvincak, 85, passed away July 28, 2026, at his home in Ankeny, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) with a private graveside service to follow.

Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio and had lived in Ankeny for over 60 years. He was a machinist by trade and a business owner by determination. Whether he was operating a machine, solving a problem, or figuring out how to make something work just a little better, he had a knack for fixing things that seemed impossible to everyone else.

Jim was a member of the Saylorville Church and he enjoyed his small group and loved the members. He loved tinkering, wood working, model trains, and being with family, especially his grandchildren.

Dad's greatest partner in life was his wife, Charlotte, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2024.

He is survived by his children, Shelley (Jeff) Clay of Ankeny, and Chris (Mary) of Berryville, Virginia; grandchildren, Kyle (Lauren) Clay, Ashley Barvincak, Jake Clay, and Aaron Barvincak; siblings-in-law, Thomas (Barbara) Alexander, Barbara Lenchak, Carolyn Alexander, and Paula Alexander; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; parents, Paul and Mary Barvincak; sister, Patricia; brothers, Charles (Donna) Alexander, Carl Alexander, Ronnie Alexander, and Helen Garba; and brother-in-law, John Lenchak.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
