Sheldon Issac Leazer, 28, of Ankeny passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026.

A celebration of life for Sheldon will be held at a later date to honor his life.

Sheldon was born on November 6, 1997, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jason and Jenny Leazer.

Sheldon graduated from Ankeny Centennial High School in the spring of 2016. During high school, he could be found on the track, and he holds multiple track records for wheelchair racing. When he wasn’t on the track, he was busy talking with and entertaining the high school girls. He was also involved with Adaptive Sports Iowa which included wheelchair basketball and adaptive skiing. Sheldon always supported his two sisters in all their activities and made them laugh with all his jokes. He was a very proud big brother. He was known for being the loudest cheerleader for his sisters, his Iowa State Cyclones, and his Kansas City Chiefs.

Sheldon was the light in everyone's life; he consistently made all people around him laugh and smile. His personality was contagious and everyone always felt that. Sheldon, during his last week shared on TikTok the Bible verse that reflects not only where he is now, but the light that he continually shared with everyone: “Later, Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never live in darkness. They will have the light that gives life.” John 8:12.

Sheldon did not know the word “stranger”. He found friendship in everyone and could talk to anyone. Being there for his family was his priority in life. Sheldon loved hunting, fishing, dancing, listening to music, and telling the best jokes. He found joy playing X-Box with his Kansas City Chiefs wrapped console, making TikTok videos, and chatting with his friends online or hanging out with them in-person. He was known to catch the biggest fish, and he would brag how many more he had caught than the rest of the boat/ice house. His family lovingly nicknamed him the “Fish Slayer”. Sheldon was the life of the party. Sheldon would almost run your toes over with excitement to celebrate, dance, and sing any chance he could get!

In the past six years, Sheldon had grown to become very independent. He was proud to say that he lived in his own apartment, held jobs, and was able to pay off his Jeep Renegade. He became the biggest chef in the kitchen and always created and shared his meals. He was heavily involved in Iowa Special Olympics Bowling and was the 2025 State Champion. He was mostly proud of his Chiefs bowling ball and his multiple gold medals. Sheldon also spent time volunteering at Childserve in Johnston and at Pawsabilities in Ankeny, continuing to help spread his joy and love for others around him.

Sheldon has many open arms waiting for him in Heaven including his first puppy, Wyette Girl. He will be known as a guardian angel for his family as he continues to cheer and support them.

He will be remembered for his positivity, his biggest smile, the best laughs, and the funniest jokes.

Sheldon is survived by his parents, Jason and Jenny; his sisters, Kambria (Keegan Sherwood) and Mallory (Husband: Jack Harris); his grandparents, Connie and Rod Swager, and Sharon and Lynn Leazer; his two favorite puppies, Cylie and Lucy; his many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and everyone else that he interacted with.
