Bill grew up in Dallas, Iowa and graduated from Dallas Consolidated School (now Melcher-Dallas) in 1958. He continued his education at Simpson College, graduating in 1962. Even after retirement, Bill continued working part-time for many years at Community State Bank.

Bill and his family enjoyed camping and boating, especially at Lake of the Ozarks. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, and his annual trip to Anna Maria Island in Florida. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, spending time with family and friends, volunteering, woodworking, and genealogical research. For his personal enjoyment he played an antique pump organ that was electrically converted. A lifelong fan of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, Bill followed the team faithfully since the age of 13, highlighted by a special trip with his sons to Dodger Stadium in celebration of his 70th birthday. He was a member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Bill will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, deep love for his family, life well lived, and a legacy that will live on in those that knew and loved him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he met on a blind date arranged by mutual friends, and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. He is also survived by his sons, Mike (Kimberly Alber) of Charlotte, NC, and Bryan (Shalea) of Kansas City, MO; his grandchildren Riley (Spencer), Connor, Addison, and Gavin; his great-granddaughter, Ellie; and other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Selma, and his sister-in-law, Colleen Bingman.
