Kirby Jay Marsh, 42, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa (520 NW 36th St, Ankeny, IA 50023), followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon to follow services.
Kirby was born on January 31, 1983, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Fred and Ricki Marsh. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 2001.
Kirby was known for his compassion, wit, love for the outdoors and fondness for animals, especially dogs. He was an avid sports fan growing up, excelling in every sport that he participated in. He enjoyed cheering on the Hawkeyes, the Huskers, Indians, Falcons, and Avalanche. He loved skiing in Colorado from a young age during family vacations to Keystone, a passion that led him to move to Colorado in his 20’s where he became a bicycle enthusiast. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends and family. He adored his young niece and nephews and enjoyed watching them reach many milestones.
Kirby expressed fond memories of his friends and stayed connected with them through all stages of life, cherishing lifelong bonds, welcoming new friendships, and always making time to reach out, reminiscing, and show his unwavering loyalty and care for those he held dear.
He is survived by his mother, Ricki Marsh; his sister and brother-in-law, Kelsi and Greg Spurgeon; his brother and sister-in-law, Korey and Andrea Marsh; and his nieces and nephews who were near and dear to his heart, Olivia and William Spurgeon, and Lawrence Marsh. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Fred Marsh.
