A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. also at Resurrection Lutheran Church. A final burial will take place with immediate family at a later date.
Janet devoted many years of her life to her career at the Iowa Alcohol Beverage Division, where she worked tirelessly until her retirement in 2011. Her dedication, hard work, and passion for her job left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her. She also assisted her husband with his printing business, Ankeny Printing, and made time to help her son with his business, Ankeny Cafe.
Janet still found time outside of her professional life to enjoy hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She loved attending the Iowa State Fair every summer. She would always get her pork chop on a stick and marvel at the doll houses in the 4H building. Janet enjoyed getting lost in a good book, challenging herself with crossword puzzles, tending to her beautiful garden of flowers every summer, and most importantly, spending quality time with her family and friends.
She was a proud and devoted Lutheran; she drew strength from her beliefs. She was known to be strong-willed and always ready to be the first to volunteer for whatever was needed. Janet was always ready to give to anyone who needed her help. She enjoyed being one of the Sunday school teachers from when she moved to Ankeny until the early 2000’s.
Janet will be dearly missed by her children, son, Dean (Brandi) Hammond; daughter, Angela Allen; grandchildren, Matthew Hammond, Thomas Hammond, Nick Hammond, Elijah Allen, Ashley Allen, Brittney Allen; sister, Sharon (Butch) Hedtke; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Hammond and Trudy Hammond; as well has many cherished nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Hammond; mother, Maja Duffy; and her grandson, Bradley Allen. Janet also had two special puppies who are excited to see her again, Princess and Snickers.
The family wishes to thank the critical care unit of Methodist Hospital for their exceptional care for Janet during her final days.
Flowers may be sent to Resurrection Lutheran Church (914 NW Ash Dr., Ankeny, IA) for her services. Memorial Contributions may be sent to St. Jude in Janet’s memory.
