Buddie James Adkins, 88, born July 14, 1937, in Myra, West Virginia, passed away December 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and honesty.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow the service at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Buddie proudly served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, dedicating his life to protecting his country with courage and discipline. While in service, he married his first wife, Maryann, in 1957 who sadly passed away at the age of forty-three. Later, he found companionship again with his late wife, Mary Adkins, with whom he shared many cherished years.
He was a devoted father to Traci, a loving grandfather to Lexi, Kylee, and Delaney, and a proud great-grandfather to OakLee. Family was at the center of Buddie’s world, and he especially treasured the holidays when everyone gathered together.
In his free time, Buddie enjoyed fishing, cooking, and sharing meals with those he loved. Known for his blunt honesty and straightforward nature, he was a man who spoke his mind and lived authentically.
Buddie’s life was marked by resilience, service, and devotion to family. He will be remembered not only for his military career, but also for the warmth he brought to his kitchen, the joy he found in the outdoors, and the strength of his character.
