Amy Virginia Miller

09/19/1979 - 09/06/2025

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Amy Virginia Miller, 45, of Ankeny, who left us far too soon on September 6, 2025.

A celebration of Amy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott in Ankeny at 2405 S.E. Creekview Dr., Ankeny, IA, 50021. In place of flowers, donations will be collected to support Ashland Ridge Elementary students and staff.

Amy was a devoted wife, an incredible mother, a gifted teacher, and a friend to all who were lucky enough to know her. She lit up every room she entered with her infectious laughter, quick wit, beautiful cat eyes and radiant smile. Her warmth and kindness made people feel at home — whether they were students in her classroom, neighbors on her street, or strangers she’d just met.

Born on September 19, 1979, Amy was the heart and soul of her family. She was married for 22 years to her high school sweetheart, Eric Miller, who was her best friend and biggest fan. Together, they raised three beautiful children — Ellerson (21), Delaney (21), and Kerigan (18) — who were the light of her life and her proudest accomplishment.

Amy taught third grade at Ashland Ridge Elementary in the Ankeny School District for over 15 years. She had a unique gift for connecting with children — making learning fun, building their confidence, and always reminding them that they were capable of more than they believed. Her classroom was filled with joy, laughter, and love — just like her home.

She was the kind of person who showed up — with a well-timed message, a thoughtful card, or a perfectly timed joke. Her personality was fantastic, and her inhaler-induced laugh could pull you out of the darkest day. She danced at weddings like no one was watching, told stories with a sparkle in her eye, and never missed a chance to celebrate life.

Amy loved the simple joys: impromptu activities, garage/driveway get-togethers, spontaneous trips, and cheering on her kids' endless volleyball, soccer, and show choir events. She was the first to laugh at herself, the last to leave a party, and the friend everyone called in a crisis — not just because she cared, but because she truly listened.

Though her time with us was far too short, Amy’s spirit lives on — in her children’s laughter, her friends' and students’ memories, and the countless lives she touched with her generous heart.

She is survived by her husband Eric; children Ellerson, Delaney, and Kerigan; her parents Brent and Ginger Hanson; her sister Carlie Hanson; and many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and students who loved her deeply.

Amy Miller was truly one of a kind. She will be missed every single day — but never, ever forgotten.
