Margaret Caroline Meyer

02/13/1933 - 04/22/2025

Margaret Caroline (Ehlke) Meyer was called home to God, after numerous requests, on April 22, 2025, at the age of 92.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (517 SW Des Moines St.) in Ankeny, IA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., also at the church.

Margaret was born a farmer’s daughter on February 13, 1933, to Charley and Clara Ehlke in St. Ansgar, Iowa. She started school at the age of 4 in the local one-room school and proudly graduated St. Ansgar High School in 1950 with a class of 26 at the age of 17. While attending Hamilton Business College, she accepted her first full time job at REA in St. Ansgar. After REA, Margaret was employed at International Harvester in Fort Dodge, IA, followed by the Ankeny Elevator, and Johnsrud in Ankeny. Lastly, she became an employee of Seneca Companies in their accounting and billing areas and would continue working there until she finally retired in July of 1988.

Margaret met Paul Meyer (a preacher’s son), who then courted prior to their wedding on November 25, 1954, in Toeterville, IA. They started their journey together in Mason City, IA and then a job transfer for Paul moved them to Fort Dodge, IA. Ultimately, another job transfer for Paul would have them move to Ankeny, IA and they would then spend over 60 years in their family home on Grant Street. During their 70+ years together, they welcomed their one and only daughter, Jolene Margaret on November 26, 1958, and who then blessed them with 3 grandchildren (Josh, Joelle, and Jenna) and 5 great grandchildren (Jaylee, Vincent, Mya, Maverick, and Maddux), plus a few granddogs and great granddogs.

Margaret, along with Paul, would spend her later years traveling around the U.S. to places like Florida, Hawaii, and Nevada. Family reunions would take them to Virginia, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, and Washington. However, most of their travel would take them to the various places in the Iowa/Minnesota area to support their grandkids and great grandkids sports and musical events.

For those that knew Margaret, knew her to be a fierce negotiator, master organizer, and dedicated cheerleader. She never knew a stranger and would make friends wherever she went. She would always make sure your plate and cup were full, and your spreadsheets organized.

Margaret is proceeded in death by her parents, Charley Ehlke and Clara (Martin) Ehlke, brother Bill and his wife Dorothy and nephew Paul.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Paul Meyer and daughter, Jolene (Mike Maher) Maggert. Grandchildren: Josh and Kendra Maggert, Joelle Maggerty and Ryan Yerty, and Jenna (Maggert) and Jarin Weldon. Great grandchildren: Jaylee, Mya, and Maddux Weldon, and Vincent and Maverick Maggert.

Donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in honor of Margaret Meyer.
