Jerry “Grandpa” Wagner, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Ankeny, Iowa on December 31, 2024.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Prairie Ridge Church (825 NW 36th St.) on Saturday, January 18, 2025. A service will take place at 10 a.m. with a celebration afterwards until 1 p.m.

Grandpa was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 31, 1949, to Leroy and Doris Wagner. He graduated from Central High School and attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa.

Grandpa was a 185th Air National Guard Technical Sergeant air policeman. He served as a Blackhawk County Deputy Sheriff. He was an owner of/and licensed agent for Farmers Insurance. He owned multiple Hardee’s restaurants as well as a motel. He was involved with the University of Northern Iowa sports athletic board.

Grandpa was a huge supporter of Iowa State athletics and would never miss a game. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, his love of sports and his tremendously sharp sense of humor.

Grandpa is survived by his children, Carie Wagner, Travis Wagner; his grandchildren, Austin Wagner, Abby Wagner, Emma Wagner, and Elly Wagner; his siblings Dan Wagner, Jack Wagner, Pat Wagner, Rosie Wagner; his best friend Crosby Wagner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Grandpa was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Doris Wagner; and his sister Sherry Wagner.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Mercy Hospice for their exceptional care for Grandpa during his final days.
