Obituary For Patricia Capehart

Patricia “Pat” Capehart, 84, of Ankeny passed away surrounded by family at The Bridges Ankeny on March 7, 2025.

Pat was born on February 12, 1941, to John and Theresa Gonner in her home that was above the Gonner Store in Springbrook, IA. Pat graduated from Ankeny High School in 1960 and worked in her mom’s restaurant, The Gonner Café in Ankeny. That is where she met her future husband, Kenny Capehart and had their 3 children and raised them in Elkhart and Alleman before moving back to Ankeny after they graduated.

Pat loved her family, especially her grandchildren and especially at their sporting events. Her grandchildren will always remember how much she spoiled them and enjoyed staying at her house. She loved watching all sports, but especially college softball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was known as an excellent baker, especially known for her “Famous Scotcheroos”.

Pat is survived by her children, Rick (Laurie) Capehart, Cathy (Casey) Walsh, her grandsons Ryan (Alanna) Capehart, Tyler Capehart, Joe Capehart, Alex Noack and her bonus granddaughter Maren Walsh, as well as her brother, Jack, sisters Connie, Gail and Debbie and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenny, son Mike, and her sister Sandra.

A private memorial and burial will take place later this summer at Memorial Services of Iowa in Ankeny.

Pat was blessed to have some wonderful caretakers at the Bridges, especially Niya, Marlie, and Crystal. A special thank you to Suncrest Hospice, especially Tony, Reece, Smiley Rylee and Miranda “Purple Hair” for taking such great care of her during these last few months of her life.
