Larry A. Epley was born on March 27, 1943, in Waterloo, IA to Milton and Mae Epley. On February 24, 2025, he finally climbed his last mountain courageously with his son by his side.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Urn burial will take place at Polk City Cemetery at a later date. The service will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4951586
Larry graduated from West High School in Waterloo in 1961. He then joined the United States Air Force, where he served for four years at the Lincoln Air Force Base in Nebraska. Following his discharge, he moved to San Jose, CA and later to the Los Angeles area where he met Linda Homan, another displaced Iowan, in 1969.
Eloping in Vegas, Larry and Linda began their lives with their two children in North Hollywood where they resided until 1978. The couple then returned to Iowa, settling the family in Polk City.
During his career, he held various jobs with great tenacity and a strong work ethic. His last 26 years, he worked for Cobbs Manufacturing and then the Lodge of Ashworth, retiring in 2010, noting during this time as his greatest accomplishments.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. While hunting turkey, he inherited the nickname TOMN8ER which he proudly displayed on his license plate.
He was an active member of the American Legion for many years, participating in events like Lobsterfest and forming many lasting friendships. In 1994, he became a Master Mason, finding joy in this brotherhood as well. He enjoyed playing pool in his Polk City American Legion league for 15 years, experiencing fun and fellowship similar to the 31 years with the Masons. Larry became a 32nd degree Mason in 2022.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Troy (Shari) Cordes; daughter, Monica (David) Iseminger; siblings, Richard Epley of Tucson, AZ, Sharon Frank of Waterloo, IA, and Judy Burbank of St. Helens, OR; five grandchildren, Robbie, Austin (Kenzie), Jacob, Jaron, and Jordan; four grand puppies and two great grand pups.
Larry will be greatly missed but the thing he’d like everyone to know is he will remain in our hearts forever, and with the thought of “how would Larry fix this”?
