Dawn Roxanne Pewick, age 70, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on March 1, 2025, after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Born on July 28, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, Dawn was a graduate of North High School. Throughout her life, she worked as a Logistics Specialist for several companies, including Atlas Companies, Mid Seven Transportation, Robert's and Dybdahl, and most recently, Daws Trucking. Dawn took great pride in her work and was known for her dedication and work ethic.
Outside of her professional life, Dawn was an active and vibrant individual. She cherished spending time with her family, particularly attending her grandchildren’s activities. Dawn’s zest for life was reflected in her many hobbies, including Zumba, yoga, painting classes, photography, dancing, and spending time at the lake with family. She loved the time she spent with friends doing many activities with them. Her energy, laughter, and enthusiasm for life will be missed by all who knew her.
Dawn is survived by her significant other, Dave Heldt; her sons, Brandon Winn (Ashley Carter) and Bradley Pewick (Alice Pewick); her stepson, Jimmy Pewick (Shanna Pewick); and her cherished grandchildren, Ayla and Colton Pewick, Bella and Drake Carter, Brad Scheller, and Morgan Pewick. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Michelle Millang, Brian Millang, Denise Roberts (Rick), Kirk Millang (Melody), Shawn Millang (Katrina), and Steve Wilhelm (Jessica).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger Millang, Jack Wilhelm, and JoLene Wilhelm; her brothers, Scott Millang and Kent Millang; and her grandparents, Dwight "Doc" Evans, Delores Evans, Jean Evans, and John and Josie Millang.
Dawn will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and deep love for her family. Her spirit, smile, and boundless energy will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Dawn's memory.

So very sad to hear about Dawn. She was such a very happy, friendly person. We will miss her walking around the block in our HOA. She would always stop to say hello and pass on friendly thoughts and comments. Very sad.
