Dixie L. Nowels of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2025, due to complications from her recent cancer diagnosis.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Dixie was born July 3, 1947, in Iowa where she was raised. She lived in Ankeny from 1959 until 1986. She then moved to Southwest Florida where she lived for 20 years. In 2006, she moved back to Iowa to be near family and friends.
While in Florida, she worked as an Accounts Payable Supervisor for 14 years. She became a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist in 2002 and served on the Board of Directors of her church for 9 years. After moving back to Iowa, she continued working in accounting until she finally found her forever job at David Bear Inc.
She recently enjoyed baking and spending as much time as possible with family, friends and her furry love, Tobey.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Norlaine Nowels; infant sister, Janet Kay Nowels; sister, Sue Mathis; and nephew, Chad Mathis.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Nowels; brother-in-law, Alan Mathis; niece, Erica Pardue (Jeff); nephew, Chris Mathis (Amy); Lisa Mathis (wife of Chad Mathis); nephew, Nathan Nowels (Bonnie); great niece, Mackenzie Dowell (Jordan); great nephew, Trevor Mathis (Harlee Rose); great-great nephews and niece, Elijah, Easton and Ellamarie Dowell; and her beloved dog, Tobey.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue.
